More than 150 people gathered at Coney Island on March 4 to support Ukraine in its war against Russia.
Board member Ari Kagan hosted the event outside the Amalgamated Warbasse homes at 2800 West Fifth St.
“We listened to the American and Ukrainian national anthems, prayed for the victims of Russian aggression, and condemned in the strongest possible terms war crimes against innocent civilians in Ukraine,” Kagan said.
US Representative Hakeem Jeffries and State Senator Diane Savino attended the rally, as did Ukrainian-born Council Member Inna Vernikov.
“So grateful to my community for standing in solidarity with Ukraine,” Vernikov said.
The following day, Vernikov walked with Mayor Eric Adams through Brighton Beach’s Business Improvement District.
“Thank you to Mayor Eric Adams for visiting our district this morning to show your support for the Ukrainian-American community here in South Brooklyn and the Ukrainian people who are fighting for their lives, freedom and sovereignty,” a- she declared.
