CEBU CITY – A group of tour guides objected to the construction of beach houses in Barangay Lambug, Badian, Cebu.
The Lambug Tour Guides Association complained that they were blocked from accessing a certain area when the construction of beach houses started.
Noel Aragoncillo, president of the Lambug Tourist Guides Association, said there is a certain area on the coast of Lambug which is a favorite spot for tourists for its picturesque view.
“Before, some guests could go to this area for photos. It’s a great spot because of the fine sand and there’s also a rock formation which is nice for taking pictures. But now the road leading to it is blocked due to construction,” Aragoncillo said.
Aragoncillo said they sent a letter to Badian Mayor Carmencita Lumain to help them address their concern, but they have yet to receive a response.
He said the group also planned to take their concerns to the central office of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in Quezon City and, if possible, to the Senate.
Aragoncillo added that some locals have also complained about the road right-of-way being blocked during the construction of a fence surrounding the beach houses.
Lumain issued a cease and desist order against the owner of the property after the Badian Building Officer’s Office discovered that the construction did not have a permit.
Another violation the OBO found was that the beach houses were built within the 20 meter easement zone.
