Many of us have been active surfers judging by the number of clicks on beach houses this week. It’s not exactly shocking with the holiday weekend and the unofficial start of summer.
When it came to the beach houses we all eyed on Realtor.com®, it’s safe to say affordability wasn’t an issue. Many of the most popular beach houses are sprawling oceanfront estates with asking prices in the multi-million dollar range. It’s easy to see the appeal: while we probably can’t afford to buy them, it doesn’t hurt to fantasize about them.
But while many of us click on these properties like a lark, there are buyers who are very serious about their beachfront searches.
“We have seen an increase in our pool of investor buyers buying second, third and even more properties on the beach,” says Vanessa Maggieluxury sales manager at Maggi Realty in Miami Shores, FL.
“A lot of Americans are still hesitant to cross borders for the holidays, but still get the travel bug,” says Maggi. “They are looking for large beach houses in the United States for family trips. Because of this wave, a beach house is an ideal investment property – and the closer it is to the beach, the better.
Amen. So let’s take a look at the 10 most clicked waterfront wonders on Realtor.com this week, and try to guess which one will be captured first. (Spoiler alert: the only one with a pending offer is the cheapest of them all. Go figure.)
Coastal Castle: More of a beach palace than a beach house, this eight-bedroom Mediterranean villa is perched atop a cliff and offers views of the Pacific Ocean from nearly every room.
The lavish 10,698 square foot mansion anchors the 3.59 acre property, which also includes a detached guest house, tennis court, staff quarters and wellness center with a gym, a ballet hall and a yoga studio.
There are also several terraces and outdoor “Californian rooms” for admiring ocean views, and a private path leads to over 208 feet of sandy beach.
East Coast Elegance: Stroll from this brand new five bedroom luxury home and past the infinity pool, 1,300 square foot marble patio, cabana with a bar and beach showers, and you will find a beautiful private beach. The dunes and the ocean are at the end of this deep lot.
On days when it’s too cold to swim, residents can enjoy the ocean from many balconies. There’s also a rooftop terrace with a fireplace, seating, and a dining area with a bar, all accessible by elevator.
Southern comfort: A bridged dune path from the ocean will lead you to this glorious and important estate in an exclusive and sought after resort.
The 10,500 square foot, copper-roofed, cedar-shingled main residence encompasses 2.07 acres, including 200 feet of ocean frontage. The mansion has nine bedrooms, each furnished with taste and luxury.
Interiors feature an ocean-facing wall of French doors and windows. A large barrel-vaulted ceiling surmounts the great room, which is anchored at either end by a fireplace. A remarkable master suite is housed in its own wing, and there’s a kitchen worthy of a Michelin-starred chef.
Outside there is a swimming pool and a pool house, a summer kitchen and green lawns.
Pretty lilac: Known from afar as “The Sea Gem”, this eight-bedroom beachfront home is located on North Florida’s Atlantic coast on famous Cinnamon Beach. It is equipped and licensed for short term luxury rentals.
The three-story home features an open floor plan. There’s an elevator, saltwater pool and spa, and a walkway to a mostly private beach. It is offered fully furnished; everything, including porcelain, is included in the sale price.
Maine attraction: Experience a different kind of beach life at this rustic cottage located on the rocky shore of Cape Porpoise Harbor, just minutes from the Atlantic Ocean.
The three-bedroom cottage includes a newly constructed boathouse, which includes storage space for paddle boards, kayaks, and other personal watercraft. Tranquility is almost guaranteed here, where you can sit by a cozy fire and watch the bald eagles fish or just listen to the waves lapping on the shore.
Gold mine: This beautiful beach house has many virtues, including $147,585 in rental reservations for 2022. Suffice it to say, income won’t be an issue.
It is located in the southernmost part of North Carolina’s famous Outer Banks, where families and friends who live on the East Coast love to gather every summer. The buttery yellow beauty is furnished with coastal decor.
Known as Beach Place, this home has six bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. There’s also a game room with a pool table and putting green. When you’re ready for the sun, walk down the private path to enjoy what feels like your own private beach.
Your own private resort: This massive resort sprawls over a finger of land just north of Palm Beach. The Indian River is on one side and the sandy beach frontage of the Atlantic Ocean is on the other.
The complex comprises four structures: a luxurious main house, two guest houses and a beach hut with entertainment facilities and a direct path to the beach. In total there are 11 bedrooms and 16 bathrooms. The sale price includes all furniture.
There is also a swimming pool and cabana, an outdoor bar, several kitchens, a games room, offices and staff quarters.
Maui wow: Described as a “legacy estate unmatched anywhere in Hawaii,” it features 10 oceanfront acres in the middle of Kapalua Resort.
The 12,000 square foot main residence features five en-suite bedrooms and several indoor-outdoor rooms with disappearing walls. To accommodate large groups of guests, there are commercial washers, dryers, freezers, refrigerators, and kitchens.
The lush gardens include tropical fruit trees and flowers. Not only is it a sanctuary for humans, but a portion of it is protected by the Hawaii Island Land Trust as a sanctuary for the nesting and breeding of ‘ua’u kani (wedge-tailed shearwater) sea bird.
Pacific Northwest fixer: The most reasonably priced of the bunch, and also the humblest, this quaint 1960s ranch home on the Oregon coast near the California border already has an offer waiting.
In need of a little updating, the three-bedroom, 1,889-square-foot residence sits on two lots totaling nearly one acre. It has stairs down to the rocky beach and amazing ocean views from the deck.
Upper Hacienda: Another Malibu offering, this mansion has serious Spanish style. The 6.62 acre property sits on a bluff overlooking Paradise Cove and has direct access to 339 feet of beach frontage. Views stretch from Palos Verdes to Point Dume.
The 16,836 square foot main house has tiled walkways and courtyards. Wrought iron railings and arches are found inside and out. There are eight bedrooms and seven fireplaces on the estate, which also includes a guest house. Luxury amenities include a wellness center, infinity pool, home cinema and games room.
