Mangaluru, July 3: Around 66 houses have been damaged in Ullal taluk on the outskirts of the city over the past three days due to landslides and sea erosion.
More than 50 houses are on the verge of collapse due to landslides and sea erosion. The loss is estimated at Rs 60 lac.

Eight houses were damaged after the formation of the Ullal taluk and the loss is estimated at Rs 26 lac. Additionally, 58 houses were badly damaged in other parts of the taluk and the loss is estimated at RS 24.9 lac.

Nearly 30 houses are at risk at the seabed of Ullal and Ucchila Battappadi due to sea erosion, while 20 are at risk of collapse due to landslides.
Neither the district administration nor the department concerned have taken any measures to repair the beach road that connects the end point of Ucchila and Battappadi, which collapsed two years ago.

Work on a permanent solution to the problem is only half complete, resulting in sea erosion in Battappady and 15 houses at risk of being washed out to sea. Many houses have no access road . At the bottom of the Ullal sea, more than 15 houses are in danger because 500 meters of work related to marine erosion are pending.
