DB Guidelines to JMC, SMC regarding Slaughterhouses – Jammu Kashmir Latest News | Tourism

JAMMU, April 6: In the highly publicized Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by an NGO “SAVE” (Save Animal Value Environment) through its President Devinder Kaur Madaan aka Rumpy Madaan requesting the closure of unregulated sites and unregistered/unregistered abattoirs/registered meat shops in UT of Jammu and Kashmir, a High Court division bench comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi ordered Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation to obtain an expert opinion and submit a report to the court at the next date.
It will also inform by means of a report of the way in which the upgrading of the existing slaughterhouses is carried out and the time in which the work would be completed, as well as the mechanism of the carcasses.
After hearing SS Advocate Ahmed along with Advocate Supriya Chouhan for the PIL, the DB also ordered Senior AAG SS Nanda appearing for the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to come out clearly on the latest position regarding the Modern Slaughterhouse in construction in Srinagar and, if it would be completed on schedule, as announced the previous time.
When the PIL came for the hearing, the DB heard from the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation Jammu and she informed that the two existing abattoirs were being upgraded and for the disposal of carcasses a separate mechanism was being developed and needed to be implemented.
DB after hearing Commissioner JMC instructed him to look into the matter with regards to the proposal to establish new slaughterhouses in Jammu town and whether or not there is such a requirement. “In the event that it is so essential, if a suitable place for it is available and in this regard, she can obtain an expert opinion and submit a report to the court at the next date. It will also inform through a report on how the upgrade of the existing slaughterhouse is being carried out and the time frame in which the work would be completed, as well as the carcass mechanism,” added the DB.
