Anantnag, 05 November: On Saturday afternoon, a fire engulfed several residential houses in Yakerbora Bala, a remote village in Anantnag district.
According to residents, a fire broke out in Abdul Rehman Ganie’s residential house and quickly spread to adjacent houses.
The massive fire also damaged the nearby mosque and a stable.
Tablib Hussain, a local, said that after tremendous efforts from residents and firefighters, the fire was finally extinguished.
A fire and emergency services official said: ‘Around five residential houses were damaged in the fire. Two houses were completely destroyed and three houses were partially damaged. The houses were three story buildings and some of them were Kaccha houses,” he said.
He added that the area is hilly and about 20 kilometers from the fire station and would obviously take some time to get there.
Meanwhile, former Congress Speaker J&K Ghulam Ahmad Mir visited the area and appealed to the administration for immediate help and compensation for the victims of the fire.
Mir said the weather forecast is not good and the administration should provide them with essentials and other materials so that the families do not suffer in this season.
Residents have also urged the administration to sanction a fire station in this upper belt of Kapran.
“The fire and emergency station will be a relief for the people of this area. Otherwise, such things will prove disastrous for us in the future,” they added.
